A dreamless sleep that leaves you feeling not fully rested. It leaves you in a daze that you wander through until the next dreamless night. Seems almost pattern-like. Sleep. Wake. Eat. Sleep. On and on it goes. Dragging along in the most unfulfilled kind of way. Leaving you lost in the maze drawn up by time.
This is what adulthood must feel like. Having a summer filled with nothing but studying and using social media. A circumstance that once upon a time was a dream. That glorified lazy summer, now nothing but a stretch of time we wish would quicken.
Everyone you know is going on some wonderful adventure. Learning wonderful things and meeting wonderful people. They have found the center of the maze and the sun shines brightly on their faces.
The desperation inside you grows. The longing for just a taste of the cool water rippling in the maze's center tears at you. But your mouth remains dry. Your mind muddled. Your legs pounding. And pounding. And pounding. Running blindly and ceaselessly. Turn right. Turn left. Another dead end. Another opportunity lost. The walls of the maze loom high above you, casting you in shadow. The sun and the clarity is no where to be seen. All you can do is keep on running through the maze. Time seems to drip by and running seems to leave you lost. You wish for a sign as you hit yet another dead end.
You want to stop running. You want to stop, breathe, and think. But you can't for the thing you fear most is running fast behind, threatening to overtake you. The mere thought pushes you onward through the countless twists and turns. The numerous dead ends start to flash by as you numb yourself to them. You are running in circles, nowhere closer to reaching the center. You hear the whispers of your pursuer as every day it gets closer and closer. Failure. Failure. Failure. You mustn't turn around. You have to keep running the maze. You have to beat this daze-inducing heat that fills the intimating green walls of the maze. You have to find your way out before you lose yourself. Run. Run. Run.
