Pink, chocolate, roses, love
Saw them there and I thought oh my god
Look at that display, you look like a huge mistake
Hate this day, wanna hide
Wasted money, rose and card
I can’t unread those Hallmark cards
Ain't it funny this holiday
I know you agree with me
So hey, let's be friends
I'm dying to see this day end
Grab your blowtorch and the trash
I could make the displays gone for this weekend
Cause its commercialization
They’ll take this way too far
and leave you penniless
Or with a cheap card
Got a long list of dislikes
They'll tell you I'm insane
But I’m anti-Valentine’s Day baby
And I'll burn this day
So that was a bit rough. But you probably get the point right? Valentine’s Day. A day filled with over-commercialization, pools of pink, the intoxicating scent of a thousand poor life-less roses, cheap chocolate, and gooey cards. Why do I hate Valentine’s Day? Well it is not because I was spurned or anything. Simply, I feel like it is a stupid holiday. Why does there need to be a designated day to express one’s love? Why does there have to be a day where someone feels obligated to get their someone flowers or a card? Shouldn’t this concept of love transcend a single day? Love should be something that is expressed daily in little ways, not on a single day with an over-stuffed teddy bear. So let’s get rid of the superficiality attached to Valentine ’s Day. Let’s dissociated the color pink with a day of love. Not everyone likes the color pink. Maybe someone wants to associate the color green or blue to their version of love. We need to rid ourselves of the over-generalizations, and embrace love with our own eyes. Let’s say boo to Valentine’s Day and to me ever trying to re-do song lyrics again! Rant over.
