Watches. Clocks. Grandfather clocks. Sundials.
Tick. Tock. The mouse ran up the clock.
Time has a way of speeding up when you least want it.
Time. Time. Time.
Though I have always been conscious of time, I don’t think I have truly appreciated it. It is just one of those things we take for granted daily. Like clean air. Or our current situations. It is not until you are alone in your thoughts. Walking to a destination under the warm sun of spring. Walking without seeing the world around you. It is during moments in which times seems to finally stop, that you finally understand its value. You become shocked at how fast the day is flying. You are up one moment, and the sun is setting the next. Or how spring break accelerated past, leaving you to wonder in its dust. Or how it is already halfway through March when you could have sworn that Valentine’s Day was only last week. Or the fact that we are almost a quarter of a way through 2015 and your list of resolutions has long gathered dust and neglect. Or that you, sitting pretty at the age of 20, are already about 25% through your life expectancy.
20 years and what have you truly accomplished? You caught up on your favorite TV show, did your homework for tomorrow, graduated from high school, and even learned the cello. In retrospect, it is not really a lot. You look at people in the world. Olympians at the age of 18. Recipients of the Nobel Peace Award at the age of 15. What do they have that you don’t? More time? Nonsense. We are all sharing the same time. The same ticking hourglass. The same amount of potential. Some just reach the next level before others.
Time is terrifying. Your college graduation is around the corner. Just like that, you are closing in on four years of change and development. In just a blink of an eye you are in the real world. You may try to slam on the brakes but you realize that time ticks on. Or you may try to book your day with activities, intent on getting that most out of each day. A tiring but noble way of doing things. The important thing is to enjoy your time.
The clock is ticking. Go out and achieve your next level.
